A vital lesson for everyone is that just because the relationship has ended, it doesn’t mean the abuse has stopped. Perpetrators may continue to stalk and threaten their ex-partners, and the risk of homicide is at its highest after the relationship ends.

‘Education is absolutely crucial in equipping children and young people with the tools and knowledge to build healthy relationships. It’s the most effective way to protect them both from becoming victims, and also perpetrators – and needs to be at the forefront of government efforts to end domestic abuse.'

The messaging app Snapchat is the most widely-used platform for online grooming, according to police figures supplied to the children's charity the NSPCC.

More than 7,000 Sexual Communication with a Child offences were recorded across the UK in the year to March 2024 - the highest number since the offence was created.

Snapchat made up nearly half of the 1,824 cases where the specific platform used for the grooming was recorded by the police.

Chatbot versions of the teenagers Molly Russell and Brianna Ghey have been found on Character.ai - a platform which allows users to create digital versions of people.

Molly Russell took her life at the age of 14 after viewing suicide material online while Brianna Ghey, 16, was murdered by two teenagers in 2023.

He consistently shared lies and hatred that resulted in fear and abuse.

Tommy Robinson has been jailed for 18 months after admitting contempt of court by repeating false claims against a Syrian refugee.

The hearing on Monday was the culmination of events that date back to October 2018.

That month, a video went viral showing how Jamal Hijazi, a Syrian in West Yorkshire, had been attacked by another teenager at school.

Yaxley-Lennon then posted his own response to one million Facebook followers alleging that his investigation had established that Mr Hijazi was a violent thug, a claim that was untrue.

The Yaxley-Lennon video spread widely and the Syrian teenager and his family received death threats.
