But the Information Commissioner's Office told the BBC that customers should be aware they had a choice over whether to share information.

Venues should only ask for data that is "relevant and necessary", the ICO said.

Apple has announced details of a system to find child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on US customers' devices.

Before an image is stored onto iCloud Photos, the technology will search for matches of already known CSAM.

Apple said that if a match is found a human reviewer will then assess and report the user to law enforcement.

MP Maria Miller wants a parliamentary debate on whether digitally generated nude images need to be banned.

It comes as another service which allows users to undress women in photos, using Artificial intelligence (AI), spreads rapidly on social media.

The website in question had more than five million visits in June alone, according to one analyst.

Celebrities, including an Olympic athlete, are among those who users claim to have nudified.

Harry Brignull, who coined the term back in 2010, said dark patterns have got worse.

“I’d hope by naming and shaming these companies and bringing it to light, it would somehow magically make it go away,” Brignull said. “I thought there would be less dark patterns 10 years later. In fact, now, there’s way more than ever before.”

He now runs DarkPatterns.org to crowdsource and call out submitted dark patterns.
