If you have a gamer in your household, chances are you’ve heard the word ‘Twitch’ being used. The name sounds fun, age-appropriate, and harmless. It would be easy to assume it is a type of game or a new slang word.
In reality, Twitch is a far more complicated platform that can expose children and young people to age-inappropriate content in a hard-to-control environment.
The UK boss of Samsung Mobile has said he did not give his daughter a smartphone until she was 11.
"I personally wouldn't have given her one early, but it is a parental decision as to when you should get your child a phone," said James Kitto.
He said whatever age people get phones, it was important to make sure they were safe online.
It comes after Ofsted's chief inspector said she was "surprised" when primary school children have smartphones.
Parents and carers have been asking the platform for more parental controls for years. They want to understand more about how those in their care use the app while also keeping them safer. After nearly one year in development, the promised parental control feature has finally arrived – Snapchat Family Center.
What is BeReal?
A mobile phone app, it notifies users when the two-minute time limit to post begins – Time to BeReal.
nstagram owner Meta is launching new parental controls across the platform in the UK on 14 June.
They include the option of setting daily time limits of between 15 minutes and 2 hours, after which a black screen appears on the app.
Parents can also schedule break times and see any accounts their child reports, and why they did so.
