France and Germany are to pressure the EU to let them break one of the most central technologies of the internet.

The two countries plan to ask the European Commission to force technology companies to limit the encryption used to keep messages private.

When Max Schrems, an Austrian privacy activist, requested to see his personal data that Facebook stored on its servers, he was mailed a CD-ROM containing a 1,222-page document.
That file, which would stretch nearly a quarter of a mile if printed and laid end-to-end, offered a glimpse into Facebook's appetite for the private details of its 1.65 billion users.

The concept of the ARCADES project was based on a 2009 Polish nation-wide programme for schools entitled Your data – your concern and the relatively high interest expressed by teachers in Poland for this programme, which inspired the Polish Data Protection Authority to transfer the idea to the European level.

The project team believes that schools should teach pupils about privacy and personal data protection. The topics related to the protection of personal data can be incorporated in the curricula of various schools’ subjects.

Actor and campaigner Rashida Jones recently produced the documentary Hot Girls Wanted (2015) about the conveyor belt of the 'amateur' porn industry, and how much more easily young women can become involved in it since the internet savvy generation came of age.

The film had begun life as an exploration of the male consumption of pornography on college campuses. However, the makers of the documentary were drawn to the other side of the process, and began investigating why and how many young women become involved in sharing images and films of themselves on the internet.

Users on Reddit have been posting about their experiences from this perspective, specifically what its like to be recognised by strangers from the internet.
